We're on the hunt for a student who's passionate about sustainable design to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Sustainability + High-Performance Design, the Sustainable Design Intern will work to increase the transparency and impact of Hickok Cole's high-performance design efforts. In this role, you will contribute to furthering the implementation of our sustainability reporting and help to inform strategy development. This information is vital to our mission to do work that matters and remain a leader in our industry's efforts to combat climate change. This position will be based in our new HQ in DC's vibrant Union Market District.

What you will do

  • Partner with firm leadership to understand Hickok Cole's sustainability experience and goals
  • Assist with data collection and input into Hickok Cole's internal project database and the DDx for AIA2030 compliance
  • Engage internal teams, external consultants, and other partners to identify and collect consistent and meaningful metrics
  • Research client ESG programs and goals to guide data collection, reporting, and strategy
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy and sustainability performance across our diverse portfolio
  • Explore the role and efficacy of sustainability and high-performance strategies across a variety of design disciplines
  • Compare collected data against industry benchmarks and prepare reports of findings
  • Support improvement of systems and processes for collecting quality performance data

What we are looking for

  • 20-hour work week minimum commitment
  • Knowledge of sustainable and high-performance design strategies, language, and metrics
  • Self-starting, energetic, and data-oriented
  • Strong attention to detail and analytic skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Valid work permit (USA)

What we prefer

  • Student currently pursuing a degree in sustainable design that would benefit from the knowledge and industry exposure
  • Prior office experience
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Experience working with Excel and Deltek Vision database a plus
