Company Overview

What Can You Expect from Purdue Federal? A Lot.
We're a credit union. So yes, we're about money. But we're also about stronger communities. And business support. And a diverse workplace. But mostly, we're about putting members on the path to financial security - and providing a few perks along the way.

Our Story

Building relationships that stand the test of time.

Strong partnerships with our members. Strong commitment to our communities. At Purdue Federal, we have a proud history of being a positive force.

Purdue University Employees Credit Union was founded in 1969 by a group of university employees. Put simply, they wanted a place where they, their families and fellow employees could save and borrow money safely, confidentially, and at a fair rate of interest.

Over the years, the financial institution went through several name changes. It finally became Purdue Federal Credit Union in 2010, shortly after acquiring Members United Federal Credit Union. The new name was a true reflection of the membership base, which includes students, faculty, staff and communities where Purdue University and its regional campuses operate.

Headquartered in West Lafayette, Ind., Purdue Federal is a member-owned financial cooperative with 83,000 members worldwide and assets exceeding $1.7 billion. Its mission is to earn the trust of its members and become their financial partner for life. Its staff is driven by superior member service and dedication to the Greater Lafayette, Crown Point and La Porte communities.

Through its 10 full-service branches, three satellite branches, and digital banking services, Purdue Federal offers members a full menu of financial products. These include locally serviced mortgages, home equity loans, vehicle loans, credit cards and business loans. Also featured are checking, savings, Money Market and other deposit accounts, as well as digital services that allow members to pay bills, transfer funds, access statements and generally manage money whenever it's convenient for them.

In addition, Purdue Federal is committed to building stronger communities. Every employee receives eight hours of paid time off to volunteer at the local organization of their choice. The credit union provides both volunteer and monetary resources to organizations that assist the needy, support education and the arts and provide health and social services.

Today, Purdue Federal remains strong because it has stayed true to its original purpose—people helping people.

Diversity & Equality

No matter who you are, you're one of us.

The communities we serve are made up of individuals from every imaginable walk of life. At Purdue Federal, we strongly believe our membership and workforce should reflect - and celebrate - people of all backgrounds.

Careers at Purdue Federal

More than a job. Build a career with us.

Why Work for Us?

Community Participation.
Purdue Federal employees love the credit union’s commitment to the communities it serves. We annually invest a significant amount of volunteer time; at events, on committees and on boards of directors, and financial resources. In fact, the credit union encourages staff to volunteer by providing employees eight paid hours of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) per year to volunteer at an organization of their choice.

Wellness. Purdue Federal embraces a culture of wellness. Our CEO’s involvement and philosophy of wellness sets an example for all employees. We recognize that wellness starts with small lifestyle changes which is what we encourage. We achieve this through a wellness program that includes free on-site wellness check-ups, free on-site flu vaccinations, and an exercise corner for each branch location. Purdue Federal has a fitness room that includes a locker room, showers, and a hydration station. Employees have a variety of fitness equipment to choose from including: treadmills, recumbent bikes, elliptical trainer, nautilus machine, free weights, fitness balls, and workout DVD’s. Some locations even participate in on-site Weight Watchers meetings, group walks/runs, healthy recipe cook-offs, and more.

Input. Purdue Federal employees love that the credit union cares about their opinions. The credit union seeks regular employee feedback through a quarterly employee satisfaction survey. Additionally, Purdue Federal created a President’s Council to collect issues and ideas, on ways to improve Purdue Federal for our members and our staff, funneled to top management. Each month the group meets with the CEO to discuss new issues and ideas. The council members are advocates for our membership and staff. Many innovative ideas that originate from our members and employees have been implemented.

Development. Purdue Federal utilizes a combination of in-person and on-line training for employee career/job development. One of the many development opportunities Purdue Federal offers is Job Shadowing. We encourage our employees to learn to “Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes”. Employees schedule two visits each year to other departments or individuals to learn about what they do and how their jobs relate to the company’s strategic matrix. As a result of these experiences we have benefited from many process improvements. They have also strengthened one of our core values, mutual respect, by cultivating new cross-departmental relationships.

Fun. At Purdue Federal we utilize the Fish Philosophy to help communicate our core values in a fun, creative way. Throughout the year we have fun activities get our employees involved. One of the activities that caught on and stayed was Puzzle Time! We sent puzzles to each of our locations and encouraged our employees to take “Puzzle Breaks” when they were stressed, frustrated or just needed to get away. At any point in the day you can find an employee taking a quick break to add a new piece to the puzzle. It has been a really fun way to relax. It has also become a little competitive too!
